Artifacts and Charateristics of a Novie Teacher # 1
The artifact that I brought to seminar was my inquiry project from Educ 422. This piece of work I had to read a chapter book and ask questions to further investigate the book. I then had to research my questions for a presentation. This piece of work is considered under characteristic 1 to have a commitment to and skills for life-long learning. This is because the questions were a way to find out more from the book. The questions also help read more into the book as well as feel like you are in the book. Another person from my group suggested that this piece of work could also fall under characteristic 2 because I incorporated a presentation with the research.

I agree that this particular project would work well with the first characteristic regarding commitment to life-long learning. I feel this way because this is a strategy students could use, along with your own self, for the rest of their lives. It is important to instill inquiry into your students and I believe that you could take what you learned from this assignment personally and incorporate this idea into your future classroom to allow your students to have the same experience with reading. This is a great way to may learning enjoyable. So, I strongly agree that this fits well with Characteristic 1 of a Novice Teacher.
ReplyDeleteGood choice of an artifact. I would change your wording a little. Instead of saying that you brought this to seminar, say I chose this as my artifact for characteristic ... Because this is ultimately supporting your beliefs about the characteristics not seminar. To make it a little stronger you might want to add a sentence or two about why reading books shows that you are a life long learner.
ReplyDeleteAmanda,
ReplyDeleteYou did a good job of connecting the artifact to the characteristic, but you also want to discuss how you understand the characteristic and its embedded elements. I agree with Melissa that your narrative would have been strengthened if you had added a sentence about how engaging in this work provides evidence that you're a lifelong learner. I also think this particular learning activity might promote the development of an inquiry stance.
